About The Author

Ren Tyson

Born and raised in Bakersfield, California, Ren Tyson grew up the eldest of five in a disfunctional, Free Will Baptist family where faith was public and pain was private. Childhood trauma, untreated mental health struggles, and years of being dismissed as “too much” or “not enough” left deep marks—but they also became the raw material for the stories she would one day tell.

Ren remembers well the day she was abruptly pulled out of high school in CA. When her family returned once again to Oklahoma, she had only an eighth-grade education. She was placed in a small-town school as a senior. With the lies and deception provided by both her parents, she completed a senior year of high school although Ren in reality had only a month or so of her ninth-grade education a few years back. Humiliated and unable to graduate, she obtained her GED. In the same year she had supposedly graduated, her parents divorced. Without knowing, her Momma had taken her sisters and returned to California. Her Daddy would end up living with Ren and her husband for a short time before he was allowed to return to the rest of the family. At 18, Ren was married, on her own, working three jobs and learning to function without them. She put down her own roots in the little southeastern town of Ada, OK. and began her own little family.

Over the years, Ren has worked in a wide range of roles—singing, photography, commercial work, security, law enforcement, teaching, and more—but music and writing have always been her constant companions. She still treasures a small blue book of songs written by her mom, the woman who first taught her how words and melody can hold both pain and hope.

Today, through The Liar: Beautifully Broken and the work that follows, Ren writes for anyone who has been silenced, doubted, or told to keep quiet. With honest storytelling, dark humor, and unflinching faith, she hopes to offer what she needed most: proof that you are not crazy, not alone, and never beyond the reach of grace.

Childhood trauma, untreated mental health struggles, and years of being dismissed as “too much” or “not enough” left deep marks—but they also became the raw material for the stories she would one day tell.

After abruptly leaving high school, she relocated with her family to Ada, OK. Shortly after she turned 18, Ren’s family moved back to Bakersfield, CA. She established her roots in the small town and began her own family. After marrying and having two daughters, she navigated through divorces, eating disorders, addictions, and the grief of numerous losses. In 2018, Ren remarried and departed from the small town she had called home. Now residing in Oklahoma City with her husband Rick and their spirited Kelpie dog, Highball, they have settled into a comfortable life filled with family, friends, and love.
